The anti feminist movement is a movement that opposes feministic ideologies. It originally started in the late 19th century as a group who were very against giving women the right to vote. More recently, anti feminists want a return to gender differences that they see as “normal”, in which a woman and a man have clearly defined and very different positions. They argue very strongly that they should not be seen as women haters.

Anti Feminist Ideas

Anti feminists feel that women have achieved what they wanted to achieve with their feminist movements. Women now have the right to vote and have achieved equality between men and women. As the feminist movement continues to exist, anti feminists argue that women want to shift the balance, making women more important than men.

Anti feminists also feel that the feminist movement has caused sexuality to become too open. Feminism is too accepting of pornography and homosexuality. Some radical anti feminist ideas are that women should be opposed from entering the workforce and positions of authority, as this will have a detrimental effect on the institution of families.

Anti Feminist Organizations

The biggest anti feminist organization in the US is STOP ERA, who are now known as Eagle Forum. The founder rallied people to stop the passing of the Equal Rights Amendment. STOP ERA is also strongly involved with conservative organizations, working on anti abortion laws, pornography and gun control.

A well known Indian anti feminist organization is Save Indian Family. Membership is male only and they seek to overthrow Indian legislation in relation to dowry harassment and domestic violence, arguing that women empowerment is nothing but a terrorist organization seeking to undermine cultural beliefs and the institution of family.

Some other anti feminist organizations are the Endeavour Forum, Women Who Want to be Women, REAL Women for Canada and Women for Life. Although many of these organizations have tried very hard to oppose the passing of new laws and policies, including the United Nation’s Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, they have been unsuccessful and many have now ceased to exist.

In 2010, the IGAF hosted the world’s first anti feminist convention. It was held in a secret location in Switzerland, as feminists would try to disrupt the convention if the location were to be made public.

Overall, there are not many openly anti feminist organizations in existence today, nor is their influence particularly strong, particularly in the Western world. However, there are still many people out there, women as well as men, who hold anti feminist views and oppose ideas of equal rights. They generally feel in the main not that women are of lesser value than men, but that each have their own important place in society and that each has a role to play. Some organizations and people, however, still exist that feel women should not have the right to vote and should remain or once again become subservient to men.
